YOUR FACE!!!

NO SURGERY! NO BOTOX! Get your anti-wrinkle fix with RETINOIDS!
Recent studies have shown that retinoid, a vitamin A derivative, helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by inducing collagen production, which is what makes your skin plump, supple, and youthful looking. There are many prescriptive retinoids, such as Differin Gel and Retin-A Cream which will give you more quick results versus buying over the counter creams or gels that may take more than a few months to see results. PRESCRIPTION - If you do opt to get a prescribed retinoid be prepared to experience some flaking of the skin. It is important to wear SPF of 15 or higher, as well as wearing a hat and keeping away from the sun during 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., which is when the sun's ray's is the strongest during the use of a retinoid. In addition, you would want to let your skin get used to the medication by starting to use it every three days for a couple of weeks and increasing to every two days till you reach using it once everyday before you go to bed. OVER THE COUNTER - these products are less abrasive because it is not a full based retinoid but it will still give you the same effects. The upside is that if you have sensitive skin or don't like the idea of "peeling" this will not have that effect or cause minimal peeling. Downside is that it would just take longer for you to see the results ... but no products give you that overnight beauty treatment, so keep at it and show them your smiles, instead of your smile lines. {Try "Philosophy's Save Me" ($60) it also has peptides that help your skin as well}.

Light the Fire

A Brave New World

With the advent of the Industrial Age and now the Information Age, the world is changing at a breakneck pace. The sole reason being is that we as humans are the first species to successfully influence our environment. Rather than just being reactive creatures, we are proactively changing how the world works. While this has brought forth many new exciting technologies and benefits to mankind and the world, it has also brought upon many new challenges.

One of the especially alarming challenges that is flying under the radar is the health of our people. The Industrial Age introduced many new technologies that our human physiology has yet to adjust to. And sadly, the oncoming Information Age is just aggravating and accelerating the issue rather than solving it.

Our Affected Health

One of the most direct ways new technology is affecting our health is through our food source. Pesticides and GMO’s (genetically modified organisms) have been shown to have detrimental effects on our well being. Epidemiological studies strongly argue that pesticides are triggers for diseases such as depression, breast cancer, Parkinson’s disease, and a long list of other diseases not to mention the destruction these chemicals have on a variety of other species and our environment. These culminating diseases may just be the tip of the iceberg of the multitude of other ill effects these chemicals have on our planet. Yet, we still continue to pump out organophosphates, copper compounds, organochlorines, and far more into our farm fields for a short sited, mild increase in crop yield. GMO’s are proving to be just as frightening. With various genes being intermixed with our standard crops’ DNA, allergies are on the rise as well as other autoimmune diseases. In addition, these manipulated genes are creating super crops and animals where, if released into the natural ecosystem, could have a devastating effect on our natural world wiping out many wild species and thereby severely limiting the Earth’s biodiversity.

Soon to come will be tips on how to limit your intake of pesticide laden foods as well as ways to purge your body of these toxins. The best first step is to start shopping eco-smart, shop organic!

Sit Up Straight! Don’t Slouch!

Pesticides are just one of the many issues that need to be discussed regarding our health. Amidst this new information age, even the very biomechanics of our body are changing. Desk work, cubicles, computers, typing, and high heels are new phenomenas introduced to the human body in the 20th century. And we are definitely feeling the ill effects! Back problems, carpal tunnel syndrome, and bunions are just the beginning. One day, I challenge you to take a moment and look at the people around you. You’ll be surprised that almost everyone around you will have hunched forward shoulders. The reason being is that almost everyone one of us spends a significant amount of time over a keyboard or a desk but spends almost no time with motions extending the shoulders back again. This leads to an overall muscle imbalance and more importantly, poor posture. Poor posture such as rolled forward shoulders leads to backs problems amongst many other health issues. Not convinced that back problems is not that big of a deal. Here’s a fact for you, back spinal surgery is one of the most profitable medical specialties today and is projected to grow significantly in the future. The cost of an average surgery costs $50,000. The take home lesson, take action now and start exercising your body.
